The Galveston Independent School District Educational Foundation (GEF) recently completed their third annual employee giving campaign with approximately 20% of district employees pledging to donate a combined $31,849.

“I hope this commitment to give from GISD’s employees inspires and motivates our community to continue to support our schools in a big way; it certainly has inspired me,” commented 2017-18 GEF board president Gina Spagnola.

Aiming to enrich the educational experience and prepare students for the future, GEF provides financial assistance to GISD educators, schools, and students. Funds raised via the employee giving campaign will support GEF and their varied programs including the Grants to Teachers & Schools program in which teachers may apply for funding needed to enhance learning in their classrooms.

Since their inception in 2002, GEF has created more than 87,408 exceptional educational experiences for GISD students, funded 375 student-outcome focused projects, engaged 1,934 donors, and directed more than $3 million in private support to GISD. During the 2016-2017 school year, GEF supplemented GISD’s traditional revenue sources with $508,603.71 of private financial investment.

GEF works to increase private support for public education by cultivating relationships with individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and foundations that share a common goal of ensuring Galveston’s children receive the best possible education from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation. They will launch their annual fundraising campaign to the community this month with brochures being mailed to approximately 1,500 households. Donations are accepted on their website at www.GalvestonEdFoundation.org or may be mailed to Galveston ISD Educational Foundation, PO Box 660, Galveston, TX 77553.
