3_Nautical_watercolorThe Galveston ISD Educational Foundation (GEF) has launched the first-ever Employee Appeal benefiting the Grants to Teachers and Schools program! Many other school districts facilitate internal employee appeals for their foundations with great success, and GEF is looking forward to GISD sharing in that success. The 2015-16 theme is “Never Stop Exploring,” and in the spirit of that theme, below are some answers to frequently asked questions.

What is an Employee Appeal?
The employee appeal is an opportunity for GISD employees to make a contribution, either one-time or monthly, to the Educational Foundation.

Where will the money go?
100% of the money collected through the GEF Employee Appeal will be restricted to the Grants to Teachers and Schools program which funds innovative projects in our GISD classrooms.

Why is the Educational Foundation asking for money from GISD employees?
When GEF submits grant applications to private foundations or solicits donations from individuals or corporations, they like to know that GISD believes enough in the Educational Foundation to support it personally. It gives donors and potential new donors great confidence in the work of GISD.

Are employees required to participate?
Absolutely not. Giving to the employee appeal is completely voluntary, and it will not increase a person’s chances of any future grant applications being funded.

Do the employees get anything in return for donating?
Yes, GEF has fun incentives for the employees who give. GEF will also give a pizza party for the campuses/district locations that reach at least 75% participation in the Employee Appeal. Even if a person donate just $1, it counts! Click here to download the 2015-16 Employee Appeal brochure which outlines all of the giving levels and the respective prizes.

How can employees participate?
Employees can sign up for a monthly or one-time donation to be drafted from their paycheck, or they can simply make a donation by check or credit card to GEF. All they have to do is fill out an enrollment form and return it to GEF by September 15, 2015. Click here to download the enrollment form.

Please remember that every donation is appreciated – no matter how big or small. Edward Everett Hale once said, “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.”
