Thumbnail_Out to Eat for EducationThe Galveston Independent School District Educational Foundation (GEF) proudly announces its newest fundraiser, “Out to Eat for Education,” set to take place on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Coinciding with Ball High School’s homecoming week, the event will occur on the same day as the homecoming parade.

“We felt that by holding the event during homecoming week, GEF could contribute to the festivities while raising awareness for our mission to enrich the educational experience in our public schools and prepare students for the future,” commented GEF executive director Erin Yarbrough.

Funds will be raised by restaurants contributing a percentage of their food sales generated on the date of the event and will support GEF and its Grants to Teachers and Schools program, which provides resources directly to educators to implement innovative learning strategies in GISD classrooms. The community can support the event simply by dining out at a participating restaurant on Wednesday, October 12. A list of restaurants will be provided on GEF’s website,, as well as on the organization’s Facebook page,

“Our goal is to create a mutually beneficial event that raises much needed funding for our public schools and supports our local restaurateurs at the same time,” remarked event chair and GEF board member Donna Koehler Mencacci. “We also wanted something that would give all of our local families an opportunity to be a donor.”

Event committee members include Elizabeth Alvarado, Courtney Carnes, Shelley Coltzer, Erica Farmer, Michele Hay, Margie Kusnerik, Brittany Rainville and Lindsey Serrette.

GEF will seek the participation of local restaurants in Galveston and Bolivar to make the event a success.  Restaurants interested in participating can join the event by submitting a commitment form.
